Sabri Boughorbel, PhD is an expert in machine learning and data science. He is leading a research team in Sidra Medicine in Qatar to leverage the understanding of clinical and genomic data using machine learning and artificial intelligence. Before joining Sidra, he worked for eight years as a senior scientist in Philips Research Labs. During his experience in Philips Research, He has led several projects related to healthcare applications and products. Dr. Boughorbel earned his PhD from Paris Sud University on the development of machine learning techniques for computer vision.

Dr. Mohamed Elshazly is an assistant professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar and a Cardiology consultant at the Heart Hospital and Aspetar. Dr. Elshazly obtained his medical degree from Weill Cornell in 2010 with academic distinction. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and his fellowship in Cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic in the US. Dr.Tanvir Alam’s work has been centered on biomedical discoveries using artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques in big data platform. His current research focusing on long non-coding RNAs, short RNAs, and their transcription regulation to understand how these genes are involved in different diseases and their function in cellular process using next-generation sequencing data.
He is also interested in protein-protein interactions, which are involved in cell adhesion and cancer metastasis. He is also developing knowledge-based methods to understand the genotype-phenotype relationship.

Dr. Marwa Qaraqe joined HBKU as a faculty member in September of 2016. Her research interests include wireless communications, predictive analytics, machine learning, and signal processing. Dr. Qaraqe serves a reviewer to several IEEE and technical international journals and conferences, including IEEE Wireless Communication and Networking Conference (WCNC) and serves on the IEEE Wireless Technical Committee on Wireless Communications. Dr. Qaraqe has also won several awards throughout her career for excellent academic and research achievements.
Dr. Qaraqe and her research team have developed a machine learning model that is able to assess how children with autism spectrum disorder pay attention by collecting and analyzing their eye-tracking data when they play an attention-based virtual reality computer game developed by the research team. Dr. Marwa Qaraqe received her bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University at Qatar in 2010, graduating with a 4.0/4.0 GPA. She went earned her MSc and PhD from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, USA in August of 2012 and May of 2016, respectively.
